Staying with Nanny Smithers

Created by Kayleigh 6 years ago
I think Nan was a typical grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren (as evident as their pictures were plastered around her living room), would spoil us, and always had chocolates and 'special' biscuits to hand (but realised there was an age limit: I got to an age I was no longer offered them, they were for the great grandchildren). A particularly fond memory or collection of memories are when I used to stay with her in the summer holidays. We'd pop to town to buy more wool for her knitting, go to bingo, but think the greatest memory or association I have of Nan is how sharp she was at playing cards. Maybe not to the knowledge of my parents, but she certainly introduced me to gambling at a rather young age, first with buttons, then got upgraded to pennies. I seem to recall that this is how we spent most evenings, playing Spades / Trumps (?) before going to bed.
